Hi everyone, its Nicole from Organized and Creative here with a Quick Tip Video.
Today, we’re sharing a piece of our personal organization system: our emergency grab bag.
So now we’re going to hand it over to Keala so he can cover the details inside.
Thank you, honey. So general principles covered in this video:
One is that this is a general-purpose emergency bag only. So this is only covering stuff that would go in the bag itself.
We’re not covering food bag or separate everyday items. These will be covered in separate videos.
and then items for self-defense or survival gear camping gear. There are people that are better suited for that type of video.
Then finally this is covering supplies generally for three to seven days.
Okay. So now some personal principles that we’re using for this build:
Number One: We are restricting the items that we are packing to what we can carry.
This is to avoid looking like a bag person with multiple bags.
Also Nicole and I have Lily who gets tired. So we need to be able to carry her.
So just make sense to restrict the amount of items that we are focusing on to things that we can generally carry.
So principal two is based on the restrictions of principle one
and that’s that we want to grab the items in one fluid motion in the moment
not be scrambling to gather multiple items over the course of time or too many items right in the moment
to avoid things like overpacking or forgetting things.
Panic ensues. There’s no plan. So everyone scrambles runs out and forgets the dog. We want every item to be pre-packed beforehand.
Principle number three: We’re starting with the items that we have on hand or around the house rather than trying to just buy everything all at once
We focus on what we do have by splitting it into four distinct zones, which Nicole will speak about now.
In our first zone we have First Aid: The instant cold pack, assortment of bandages, paper tape, sterile pad,
nonstick pad, survival wrap, gauze pad, latex gloves, healing ointment, thermometer, and sea bands for nausea.
In our second zone there’s Hygiene. The products include: hand sanitizer, feminine products, body wash, head-to-toe wash,
Toothpaste, toothbrushes, toothbrush case, flushable wipes, and razors.
Zone three is Basic Supplies. We have a poncho, trash bags, plastic bags or equivalent, flashlight,
extra masks, twine. Bungee cords, multi-tool, multi charging pack pin paper with a list of important phone numbers compression pack of closed and blanket
In zone four we have our Important Documents which include social security cards, birth certificates, and other IDs,
banking info, insurance info tax info or anything else important.
K: All right in here we go with Nicole packing this bag.
N: I like this bag because it has a lot of different compartments. As you can see I can fit a lot in there.
N: I like to use Ziploc bags because they’re clear and keeps everything contained.
N: I know you don’t like this bag, right? K: Nope, but you did it!
And it looks good. No, it looks good. It looks good.
And that’s our emergency grab bag. I hope you found this helpful if you’re just getting started or if you’re adjusting a bag you may already have.
