Survival Gear Us Buy In Store Near Me

welcome to hunters handbook TV I’m your
host mark Borkowski survival than
packing a flashlight deciding what
equipment to include in your survival
pack is equally as important as knowing
how to use that equipment remember
you’re not trying to live out there for
a year just long enough to be found who
better to teach us survival then the man
that teaches survival for the most elite
warriors in our country the Navy SEALs
will also be joined by our good friends
from the National Shooting Sports
Foundation to find out what they’re
doing to protect our shooting sports
heritage let’s join this week’s exciting
guests Chris just want to thank you
again for coming down helping me with
this as a member of our adventure race
team and more importantly as a member of
America’s elite fighting force US Navy
SEALs you’re an expert in survival I
brought my gear that I have here to go
out and hunt that I wouldn’t planning or
going out in the fall so survival gear
question for you if you had one item to
take with you what would you take well
there’s really not one item that I would
think about bringing but the good part
is that you’re thinking about planning
about what you’re going to bring out
there so what I’d like to do is go
through the gear that you brought and
this this is your actual gear that
you’re planning on bringing out and just
kind of talk about some different things
you might want to think about prior to
going out because that’s really the most
important step you know in the in the
SEAL Teams before we go out and do any
operation we plan and rehearse and
rehearse over and over again and that’s
what makes us so good it’s our training
in our preparation before we go out and
and do any operation that you know makes
us successful in the field so that’s
what hunters such as yourself really
need to do is plan before they go out so
different things you want to plan for is
you need to plan for food you need to
plan for water shelter fire and also any
medical needs that you might have so I’d
like to just go through and see what you
brought for each one of those things
sounds good to me
all right so let’s start off with food
you brought some energy bars here
and it really doesn’t matter what you
bring it’s really personal choice of
yours but you want to think about things
that are really going to sustain your
energy more compact foods with more
calorie dense type items that you can
bring you also want to think about
sustaining your food if you’re out there
for more than a day or a couple days you
want to be able to acquire food on your
own so you might want to think about
some line and some fish hooks or
something like that to find a way to
bring in another food source also having
knives available to be able to clean
your your items if you happen to catch
any next would be water and when I’m
talking about these to the order of
importance that these things come in all
depend on the environment you’re in if
you’re in the desert water is going to
be your number one thing that you need
to concentrate on doing first if you’re
up in the mountains if it’s a cold
environment shelter is going to become
your primary thing that you need to
target on working on first so don’t take
the order on going in you know you’re
going to have to look at that in the
situation you’re presented with okay I
have a question on water there are
different schools of thought I’ve heard
over the years it D if you have your
little bit of water with you do you
ration it or do you just drink it just
so you get the most benefit from it well
it’s a great question and your body is
is a great thing and it’s designed to
ration water for you’ve got your kidneys
that that filter the water through and
get it to your cells as needed so don’t
don’t you don’t want to do that you
don’t want to ration the water yourself
drink what you have use the energy that
that gives you to go and find more water
which you know we’ll look at what you
brought here one thing that’s important
with water is being able to clean it and
I don’t see that you have anything
available to clean water you do have way
of starting fire which is good you can
boil your water but you need a vessel to
do that in so you might need to carve a
vessel or if you have maybe a can of
soup that you had brought with you you
can use that can to boil your water to
clean it if you don’t have that then you
want to collect the cleanest water
available so you want to use a running
source of water to do that you never
want to use a stagnant source if at all
possible and then what you want to do is
try and filter the water out if you
don’t have any filter with you
which is another great item to bring
they have a lot of filters and hand
pumps out now you can use but you could
take your reservoir here take off maybe
your sock or part of your shirt put it
over the opening of the reservoir and
use that to filter anything out of the
water that you don’t want in there you
know you’re getting it’s it’s not a
perfect situation but you’re doing
whatever you can to make the most out of
what you have available because when
your body starts shutting down what are
some of the things you see are symptoms
of this it’s going to be central nervous
system things you’re going to obviously
you’re going to have thirst you’re going
to have a dry mouth when you have that
that’s already a sign that you’re
dehydrated but different things are
going to start happening you’re going to
get tired you’re going to get pop you
know any of these signs you see you want
to realize you want to slow down what
you’re doing try and get out of the heat
and find any way you can to get water in
your system stay tuned to hunter’s
handbook for more information
you
okay mark so we were talking about water
and you know obviously you want to get
the cleanest water available but you
always also need to be able to collect
the water and what you have here is you
have your emergency space blanket which
is something you should always have with
you it’s a multi-purpose item and what
you can do with this is create a funnel
hang it up from a tree and create a
funnel that funnels the water into your
reservoir or you can also you know as
you sleep hang it upside down so it’s a
little bowl shaped and you can collect
condensation you know put a little rock
in the middle cut a hole in the bottom
you can sleep under it you can also
collect water at the same time and then
of course as a shelter which is another
one of our priority items that you need
to think about you know you have your
emergency blanket available so depending
on where you are if I’m going to be you
know this my trip up coming is going to
be in the mountains then you know
shelters will be a higher priority
because that temperature is going to
plummet once the Sun Goes Down or starts
to go down even it starts dropping right
yeah depending on your environment again
your priorities are going to change if
you’re in the mountains like you said
shelters number one if you move to the
desert or a desert environment something
where you need water right away you know
it’s it’s all going to depend on your
environment and knowing and planning
before you go out there is really going
to become paramount something I want you
to take a look here is I put together a
little first-aid kit an innovator I have
some anesthetic wipes blood clotting
material and some more no wipes you know
in case you know of a bad cut or
something like that or a sting or
something what are you anything you
might want to add to a first-aid kit
well the most important thing I think is
not what you bring with you because you
know anyone can tell you different
things to bring and you can bring a
small kit or a larger kit but the
important thing is knowing what to do in
an emergency situation so it goes into
training it goes into planning and you
know if somebody’s bleeding what you
have to do is stop the bleeding you know
a lot of people see somebody bleeding
and they’ll be digging through their
medical kit trying to find just the
right thing to stop the bleeding when
all they really need to do is grab them
and stop the pressure with their hand
you know in in our situation you know
you always want to you know we think
about tourniquets a lot of people think
you know tourniquets are bad which they
can be if you don’t know how to use them
so you need to learn how to use these
items but we always say life over limb
you know if they’re going to bleed to
death because of a cut in their arm you
know
shouldn’t die because of that you know
do whatever you can to stop the bleeding
intellect it’s back to planning
preparation training right right it is
you know you’ve got your mapping compass
here which is great but like you said
you’ve got a train with it you know in
the SEAL Teams we do map and compass
work all the time
you know it’s one of the things I taught
when I was an instructor was mapping
compass and we’d go over and work over
you know repeatedly repeatedly and
that’s how we become so good is we just
constantly train and we constantly plan
you know so you want to do that you want
to have your compass but you always you
know we always say two is one and one is
none you know I always have two
compasses so you’ve got your compass
you’re going to use all the time and
then you’ve got your backup compass
always have my watch has a digital
compass that I always use that’s on
there and then it’s also important to
trust your gear you know if you want to
go on a certain bearing stick to that
bearing you know a lot of times the
trail is going to change the features
are going to change and you’re going to
want to turn with that but stick to your
compass and you’ll do that if you’re
confident in your training and your
abilities and again training and
planning is what it comes down to and
leaving leave a word back home where
you’re going in case you do get lost
right that’s it that’s a great point you
know telling your wife or your family
exactly where you’re going what you know
what you’re going to be doing how long
you’re going to be out and what you’re
going to do in an emergency situation
are you going to find your way back you
know if you have the ability and the
skill to do that that’s great but if
you’re in any doubt at all the best
thing to do is always stay where you’re
at and let people come find you well
then that way they’re not looking for
you in Puget Sound when you’re up on
Mount Baker or somewhere like that all
right
it’s a good point Chris I would like to
thank you you know on behalf of Gerber

  1. First negative……Gerber adds for equipment. Gerber used to be good, but a lot of their offerings are now made in China!

6:47…All of this is common sense, but it is no longer common or taught.

Map and compass is paramount to getting where you want to go. DO NOT depend on GPS! It may go out, or you have a bad point for reception. Or the batteries may die. Learn to use a map and compass like the SEALS and you will never be lost anywhere in the world.

8:51…….certain areas of the planet have large deposits of iron ore beneath the surface. They can throw-off your compass by 90 degrees.

Know these areas beforehand and remember that your bearing may be off. Use visual sighting along a bearing to keep you on the right path.

I have nothing against the SEALS, heck we bought them all rounds when they came to the NCO Club. At least the thoughtful and prepared people among us did. Just like when 1st Recon came in.

If you are in ingin country, you hope the guys to come in after you remembered you and have a memory of what you looked like.

That way there was no mistake on the ground of who you were and what you were doing there.

62 year-old SAC trained killer on B-52H models here.

I was the Escape & Evasion expert for my crew of six souls.

Glad that the Cold War ended and we never had to evade through the Urals of Russia.

  2. Just out of curiosity… what if I promised you that I could teach you to become a better shooter, save you time and money, AND you can do this all from your home…
I know you’re interested, so I’ll see you on the other side: https://chrissajnog.com/newrules/
