Ouch, I put up a video a couple of weeks ago (burning ants) lol. Try grabbing a dry piece of charred wood from your chimnia and the mag will put an ember back into it. Then put the ember coal into a birds nest and blow it into a flame. A small glass is harder. It will also light char cloth. There is no fails just learning
Try a fresnal lense
A nice old fashioned like 4 inch wide glass one and you will be good to go,we used to burn leaves.
Yes, your husband is absolutely correct, and you can tell him, lol. The magnifying glass doesn't necessarily have to be larger, but it does have to be x10 power in order to collect and concentrate enough light. So, yes your husband is right, the old school glass magnifying lens where perfect, bur heavy. They sell much lighter plastic survival versions. Great test!!!

Im told it doesnt work with white paper. Supposed to use dark paper. Dunno.
i find darker paper works quicker with a magnifying glass , bright white reflects the light and heat ,
